
Back May 2000 a selection of 4x4 enthusiasts spotted a niche in the 4x4 events calendar and set about introducing a new event to celebrate the introduction of the Millennium. The intention of the project was to introduce an exciting 4x4 challenge for a whole variety of off roader and 4x4 enthusiasts during a weekend in a venue somewhere in the United Kingdom, at the same time offering valuable support for a worth while charity - This is how the Macmillan Cancer 4x4 challenge was born.
Over the years the challenge has consistently attracted more teams to the event to the point a limitation of sixty places was introduced and 2009 is set to be the best yet, despite the depressing economic climate that exists in the UK. In 2007 the event raised an incredible £110,000 with over £100,000 being raised in 2008.
The application process for the 2009 4x4 challenge was filled within days and now the only thing new comers can do is file for the reserve list. One of the successful teams competing in this years event will be youngsters Gareth Jakes and Michael Batchelor, both in their early twenties Gareth will be taking part in his fifth challenge.
