The Housing Minister, Margaret Beckett has just revealed plans that the news Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) is to get its business base in the Bristol area and the man named to be the new chair for the whole project is hopefully going to be Sir Micheal Pitt, who is the current chairman of the National Health Service for the South West region.
If Michael Pitt is appointed he will become first chairman of this newly instigated Infrastructure Planning Commission created in whole to compliment the recent 2008 Planning Act.
The chairmans position is likely to have a substantial influence on decision making processes that will be required for mega infrastructure projects including the creation of airports and in particular the significantly influential high speed rail network to be created throughout the country.
The Infrastructure Planning Commission will also deliver an influential role in ensuring a slicker and ideally better decision making procedure for major and influential projects. The influence of the IPC will certainly be its position in working at a distance from the government itself and by incorporating its policy creation from the recently passed 2008 Planning Act.
The overall and last decision on who will be appointed as chairman of the IPC will fall at the feet of Communities and Local Government Select Committee who will shortly convene to make that important final decision.
