Ahead of the prestigious Farnborough Airshow business secretary Vince Cable has given a speech pledging the Governments support for the aerospace industry. In his speech at the Sustainable Aerospace Conference Cable outlined the Governments desire to help support the aerospace industry by encouraging skills and development. They are conscious of ensuring the UK remains at the forefront of the aerospace and aviation industry amidst tough overseas competition.

As part of the support there will be a drive to increase the availability of apprenticeships within the aerospace industry, something that has long been sought after by many manufacturers as there currently exists a demand for engineers at the higher level. The Government is looking for a fast track solution from foundation levels through to professional levels at the same time they want increase the amount of level 3 and above apprenticeships.

In the run up to the opening of this years Farnborough airshow Cable also announced his overall commitment to the plans to improve the strength of the British Aerospace industry by stating his intent to chair regular corporate meetings with aerospace industry leaders in a bid to forge an understanding between the Government and the needs of the industry.

Continuing with his speech Cable also commented on the need to inspire skills in every sector of the aerospace industry which will include manufacturers of the aircraft themselves right down to the component companies such as ourselves in the aerospace springs sector. To compliment the Governments strategy to work closely with the aerospace industry a special Futures Day is being held at the show to try and encourage youngsters into the industry.

The Future Day programme is being held on Friday the 23rd July and is aimed at attracting children from as young as seven years old through to young adults in their twenties.
