Stairlift Anger for Council Residents

Birmingham Council has upset a lot of people after it announced that it would now be making charges for servicing and maintenance work to be carried out on stair lifts installed before 2002.

The Council Authority has written to residents who have had these essential stairlifts installed and informed them they will have to start paying as of December 2008 which has also made the move a very unwelcome Christmas present for many of its council residents.

The move will effect large number elderly and very vulnerable people in the Birmingham area and some have already been quoted over a hundred pound a year for maintenance charges which some say will be untenable.

The Council Authority says the implementation of the maintenance and service charges for its stairlifts and platform lifts are essential for them to continue providing the service to older installation and they will only be coming into line with other the policy of other authorities.
